What did he do?

For better or worse, streamers are always there to document some good and bad moments we see online. Recently, one streamer known as Jackie on kick.com captured the moment when several gang members harassed a civilian and even slapped him in Los Angeles, California. The moment was so shocking for the streamer that she broke down in tears during the stream. Still, some people believe this influencer made things a bit too personal for her and just started crying to get online recognition, which wouldn’t be too far-fetched.

Master_Canary440 shared the clip on the r/PublicFreakout subreddit. In it, we can observe the Los Angeles streamer recording a civilian. It would seem that the man was showing Jackie something on his phone. A short time after, a group of gang members arrives and approaches the man menacingly. They start asking him if he’s a gang member because he looks like one they’d seen before, and then one of the gang members proceeds to slap the civilian in the face. Then, they all run away, with the one who slapped him screaming like a child as he escapes from the scene.

Jackie asks the man if he’s okay, and the one affected calmly says that everything is fine. Jackie ends the interaction by saying, “Do you want to get my Instagram?” But the man rolls away on his skateboard.

The streamer flips to a selfie perspective and starts recording herself crying, saying she can’t believe that just happened. She continues to cry on camera, saying he was a “really nice person” and that they “ganged up on him for nothing.”

While it was certainly a shocking situation, some think the crying was a bit over-the-top and that the end became a bit more personal for the streamer than for the civilian.

Naturally, many Redditors shared their thought on the situation and the one recording.

“15 v 1 and the old slap and run, some hard dudes right there.” – WoogityVro via Reddit.

“She’s also doing the most she possibly can to profit from someone’s suffering, tho. Streamers may seem like good people, and I’m sure some are decent people, to be fair, but don’t forget how much they sell out everyone around them.” – maruiki via Reddit.

“Gangs are sh*tty, but she made it a bit performative at the end.” – Ralph–Hinkley via Reddit.

The situation was indeed horrible for the man, but the streamer made the thing look personal once she started recording herself. Yes, this can affect someone if they watch it up close, but there are other ways to create awareness, and recording yourself in tears is not the best way. On the other hand, she might’ve been genuinely affected or shocked, and if so, that’s fine. In any case, we can only hope this civilian is okay and doesn’t have another situation like this.
