After the chaos that went down in LA last month or so, the last thing anyone would want to hear is more trouble brewing in the city. Unfortunately, Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna reports that “the largest loss of life for us as the LA County Sheriff’s Department since 1857” has just taken place. Allegedly, members of a bomb squad were transporting explosives at the Biscailuz Center Academy Training when the items they were moving detonated. Three deputies were killed in the blast of the “very active crime scene,” as Sheriff Luna put it, according to Reuters.

The investigation concerning why the explosion occurred will take several days to weeks, with multiple departments and federal agents trying to pinpoint exactly what happened. According to Reddit users, there are some rumors circulating about that this was “a deliberate attack by anti-ICE protesters.” One commenter chimed in, saying that “Russian bots already claiming it was radical left antifa always attacking police officers.” “The LA Bomb Squad was infiltrated by ANTIFA!?” another joked sarcastically. “Let the conspiracy theories begin!” quipped a third. Jokes aside, the fact that three members of the LA police force lost their lives in a reportedly “active crime scene” at a training center is shocking news.

Plenty of outlets are doubtless covering this breaking news story, with the common headline of ‘3 killed in explosion at LA police facility’ or something under those lines. Reddit users believe there might be many who don’t read into what actually happened, leading to increased tension between citizens and the government. From baseless accusations and conspiracies to bots running rampant, claiming to know what happened, it’s likely a mess in plenty of online spaces covering the story.

“I wonder when people realize the bots are doing it to radicalize right-wingers to be violent,” ponders a Redditor. Still, since the sheriff spokesperson claimed it was a “crime scene,” it’s hard not to formulate theories as to what went down. Nevertheless, he did afterward say what happened is “not a threat to the community.”
