The 90th Academy Awards nominees have been announced, and there are not many surprises in the list. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Shape of Water, and Dunkirk lead the pack. One notable nomination comes for Rachel Morrison, the cinematographer of Netflix’s Mudbound. She is the first woman in the history of the Academy Awards to be nominated for Best Cinematography.

Probably the biggest surprise to me comes from how much love Get Out received. It got four nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. It is most likely a long shot in each category (Best Director seems like its most likely chance), but it’s good to see genre fare not dismissed by the Academy Awards solely for being genre fare.

Here’s the full list. Check out the Academy Awards website for more information. If the Academy Awards are too stuffy for you, you can also check out the Razzie nominations, which came out yesterday.
