If you thought that you would never hear again the excuse “my dog ate my homework” after finishing school, think again. Because even though it’s the oldest excuse in the book, pets do such random things sometimes. Like this dog in Florida, who found and ate a delicious snack among its owner’s belongings, and the snack in question was a passport. The worst part is not that the dog ate an important document, but that the owner had to take an international trip the next day.
Redditor IDontFeel24YearsOld shared on r/mildlyinfuriating how they were packing up the whole family for their trip the next day. Until OP’s wife screamed from upstairs. The wife then showed OP how their dog ate only the main page of her passport, saying, “I’m not going to Jamaica,” and since it was an international trip from Florida, they absolutely needed that document. This was just an honest mistake, as the wife had left the passport on the bed for a moment when the dog took it. Furthermore, the dog has no history of being destructive or getting into trouble like this. OP added that the passport’s photo they shared was after their wife tried to tape it back together.
OP contacted the passport office to see if they could get an emergency one, but these are only for emergency situations. So the only option was for OP to change their wife’s flight time to Jamaica. Then, OP traveled as planned with the rest of the family. Meanwhile, the wife had to travel to Buffalo for the only available passport appointment the next day. The wife even arrived early for the appointment and, with the exact timing, got her new passport and made it within the 10-minute grace period for her flight. So the wife ended up arriving in Jamaica with her family just three hours after they arrived.
Among the most notable comments on the post were ‘Sounds exhausting, but delightful that both you and the passport office were able to make it work… and now you have a fun story to tell for a long time,’ as user georgecm12 said. Other redditors were so amazed by the couple’s organizational skills, ‘That’s some top tier ‘deal with it’ organisation though. Rather than just accepting your fate that she couldn’t go you both found a pretty great solution‘ said Visual-Living7586. Fortunately, this situation had a happy ending. The only sad thing is that they didn’t let OP’s wife keep the chewed passport as a memento of this unexpected adventure.
