While ICE is arguably the most aggressive force that people need to watch out for, regular police are also quite dangerous. Although they are meant to be protectors of ordinary citizens, it is already common knowledge that countless acts of police brutality and various other rule violations are committed by officers across the country. One incident that highlights this truth took place in Washington DC late at night. TikToker Niyokababy recorded a group of officers in action as they attempted to search a car without a warrant. In the video, you can hear her demanding answers from the police as they stood around avoiding her camera.
She pressed them to explain what they were doing with a car that was clearly empty. Several other women joined her, directly questioning the Washington DC police. Yet despite their persistence, the officers continued to ignore them and proceeded with rummaging through the vehicle.
When the women got too close, one of the officers pushed them back, ordering them to step away. Niyokababy shouted that they were not trying to touch the officers and only wanted to know why they were searching a car without a warrant. Sadly, no justice was delivered that night as the video ended with Niyokababy still shouting her questions while being ignored.
Internet users later expressed outrage at the footage, agreeing that the act was unlawful. Many stressed that this was a warrantless search that should never have happened. “Sure seems like a warrantless search to me,” one user wrote.
Some even urged Niyokababy to report the incident to the Attorney General. “I’m a lawyer! This violates the 4th Amendment (unlawful search + seizure). Contact DC AG Brian Schwalb to investigate. This is why the feds need to stay out. MPD wasn’t doing illegal stuff like this before. Now DC will face more lawsuits, just like Trump’s admin,” one TikToker commented.
Others warned that police might not simply be searching for suspicious items but could even try to plant evidence to create trouble for the car’s owner. More commenters remarked that this was yet another clear sign that America was sliding into a tyrannical fascist state where people’s voices and rights no longer mattered.
“People in the comments still don’t get it. We’re past the point of lawsuits y’all. This is tyranny and we are under a dictator. We’re past legal limits,” another commenter wrote. A handful of users even blamed Trump for the unlawful behavior of police in Washington DC.
“Trump did say they can do what they want, and they’re doing what the fuck they want because they know the law doesn’t apply to them anymore. They’ll beat you and throw you in jail and know that nobody will question what they do,” one Redditor said.
