Honestly, you’ve got to give it to them; the tenacity with which Meghan Markle and Prince Charles continue to endure amid the overwhelming hate is commendable. Like the current administration in D.C., they persist despite making a fool of themselves over and over. Not to mention, making shows on Netflix is no small feat either, with the recent Season 2 trailer for ‘With Love, Meghan’ hitting a Like-Dislike ratio of 3.5K to 37K. Truly a sight to see, but what one thing that many people are seeing is also her questionable cooking practices–specifically, the blatant display of potential Salmonella contamination.
In a Reddit post pointing out all the hazards in Markle’s kitchen, one of the most egregious acts was her putting rows of raw chicken drumsticks over ready-to-eat salads. Those with common sense or cooking experience will know that this is a big health hazard, considering how Salmonella is no joke. It’s contagious and can do a number on your stomach and intestines. Seeing how she’s showing such poor practices of cleanliness in her cooking to tens of thousands of people, one could say she’s encouraging, if not promoting, harmful hygiene to her viewers.
“It is genuinely unhygienic and offensive,” remarks a follower of Markle’s antics on Reddit. “I really find it disappointing that Netflix is giving Rachel a platform and not even requiring her to demonstrate basic food hygiene practices,” they remark. “Sloppy food preparation habits can easily cause foodborne outbreaks and even kill vulnerable people.” Another chimed in, saying how “the raw, uncovered chicken in the fridge will forever be triggering.”
Salmonella contamination isn’t the only sin Markle is guilty of in the kitchen. As user narcwatchkiwi points out, she’s also used her bare hands when not appropriate, such as preparing dishes or putting her hands around her mouth when cooking. Uncovered hair, unremoved jewelry, and bugs present in the food are just a few other problematic things the Redditor pointed out. Of course, you can’t expect perfection out of anyone, but the fact that “Rachel presents herself as some sort of expert on food, despite having absolutely zero culinary expertise, training or work experience” is irking many people.
“It’s absolutely horrifying. Gordon Ramsey would lose his mind,” says one user. “He’d shut it all down,” agrees another. While an episode with Gordon managing Markle’s kitchen would be an amazing and hilarious collab, the point that these commenters and others are making is that the Duchess isn’t cut out for a cooking host, at least not with her current skillset. But apparently, Netflix thinks she’s cut out for it, with Season 2 of her show coming out and all. At the very least, people are getting a kick out of the trailer’s comments:
“Netlfix, the only entertainment we’re getting out of this show is the comment section, so thank you for leaving it open…I am not going to watch the trailer, just reading the comments. Brutal and hilarious…I’ve been so excited for season 2 of the comment section!!”
