It seems that more and more people have gotten the idea that threatening someone with ICE is an appropriate way to vent their frustration. Recently, a man in Las Vegas, Nevada, threw a full-blown tantrum at a Jack in the Box employee because his food didn’t arrive fast enough. In the video shared on Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout subreddit, you can watch the man completely lose his composure. He kept demanding to speak with someone else, clearly unhappy with the pace of the current Jack in the Box employee. At one point, he even asked, “Does anybody speak English?” despite the employee replying fluently in English.
The man’s antics escalated when he demanded to speak with the manager, only to be told that the manager wasn’t present. During the exchange, the employee mentioned that the man had threatened to call ICE on him during the rant. The man retorted, claiming that it was actually the employee who had threatened to call ICE. He then banged on the car door, shouting that he wanted his food immediately. The Jack in the Box employee calmly pointed out how embarrassed the woman in the car looked, her face nearly disappearing as she turned away, clearly not wanting to appear on camera.
So exasperated by the man’s childish behavior, the Jack in the Box employee decided to simply return his money. The man, however, kept repeating the question about whether he was the only one speaking English in the Jack in the Box. He then escalated further, threatening to call the police while continuing to demand his food, again acting like a petulant child. Thankfully, the situation did not turn physical, and the man eventually left the Las Vegas Jack in the Box.
Internet users who saw the video were completely flabbergasted at his behavior. Many mocked the man for repeatedly questioning whether anybody could speak English, despite the fact that the Jack in the Box worker had already demonstrated that he could. “Being able to speak English has never been a requirement to be in this country or be a citizen of it. We have no official language declared in the U.S.,” one redditor commented. Others expressed sympathy for the woman trapped in the car with this openly racist man. “Both his wife and dog are embarrassed,” one user wrote.
Some commenters expressed concern over what appears to be a growing trend of people threatening service workers with ICE, blatantly revealing their racism. “We’ve reached the point in American fascism where threatening to call ICE on service staff is acceptable. We are not alright,” one Reddit user wrote.
