Recently, there has been a lot of racism directed at Palestinians despite everything they are going through. Even those who simply show their support for Palestine are also harassed. A Palestinian man in Texas was met with racism when he went to a cafe to study. In a video that the medical student shared, he shows the backpack that he had with him while there. You can see that it has a Palestine flag pin on it which is totally normal. It’s not offensive at all. The guy then decided to turn around and that’s when he saw a man staring at him. The man and his wife got up and threw away their drinks before the husband headed quickly toward the Palestinian guy. “You are a piece of shit for wearing that around,” he tells the student hinting at the pin on his bag. That’s insane.
The fact that the Texas local found it okay to be racist in a public setting is disgusting. The innocent guy had to explain himself by saying he had the pin on because it is his country. He also states that it’s nothing political. Even if it was political, that doesn’t give the right for anyone to harass him. The student didn’t know what he should do after this attack but he filmed the couple as they were leaving. Unfortunately for the racist guy, he was wearing his work t-shirt. This made people dox him as they realized that he was working for USSA. In their latest video, you can see dozens of comments mentioning the employee’s name and demanding that they do anything. People like this deserve to face some consequences since they decided to be brave about being racist.
People Reacting to the Texas Local’s Racism
A lot of people were upset by what the Texas student went through. This made one woman write, “This kind of racism should not be tolerated!” Many comments also doxxed the guy as one person wrote, “@USAA this is Robert Cobb, your Military Affairs Relationship Director (Army). This is the behavior tied to your name — are you really okay with this representing your company?” So far, the company hasn’t responded despite several people contacting them. Others offered their support as someone also wrote, “Hey, brother! I’m a Navy Vet and retired police officer. I support you along with so many others. He isn’t the majority, just the loudest.” It’s true that not everyone is racist, but it is still unfortunate that we have to see situations like this.
Aside from doxxing the Texas local, others decided to take action to try and get the company to respond. “I’m writing a letter to USAA tonight I’m cancel my home insurance and both cars if they don’t handle this correctly and I’m spreading word,” one woman wrote. Even an employee left a comment saying, “Ayham I’m sorry this has happened to you, I’ve submitted a report to our ethics team here at USAA.”
There were some people, though, who believed that what happened wasn’t racist. “Not really a hate crime. But also kinda weak on your part to let a man talk to you like that, stay quiet, and start recording when he’s already left… real weird energy,” one person wrote. This made the Palestinian guy respond and say, “Kinda weak of a 50 smth year old veteran intimidating a 22 yr old student trying study at a coffee shop. And to hit and run with it too i woulda threw smth back at him if he stayed long enough to let me.” Hopefully, the guy would face any kind of consequences.
