It’s nothing new that people love storming fields, especially when their favorite team is playing. Some do it for fun or attention, while others want a selfie with their favorite player. I get why security guards have to tackle fans who run out there. Adults can be unpredictable and even dangerous. But that same approach should not apply to kids.
Take what happened recently at Petco Park in California. A young boy ran onto the field during a baseball game, darting around as security chased after him. One guard finally caught up and simply held him, which seemed like the right call. Then another guard joined in to make sure the boy couldn’t run away. At that point, the situation was under control.
So tell me why on earth did a third guard think it was necessary to come charging in full force and tackle the kid to the ground?
Once the guard tackled the California kid to the ground, the cheers of the people in the stadium turned into booing. They started booing the tackler, which is a valid response. He overreacted, honestly. The guards then lifted the boy up, and they started dragging him toward the exit. Thankfully, he didn’t seem to be harmed because he looked like he was smiling. As he neared the exit, he started lifting his arms as best as he could to cheer on the audience. This made the crowd continue their cheering and even clap for him. I get it that the guard was doing his job, but he did this to a young boy. The worst part is that he did it after the boy was under control. A tackle like this could break something. The boy is still reckless.
People Reacting to the California Kid Getting Tackled
A lot of people were upset at the California kid getting tackled. They believed that it wasn’t necessary to do all that. It is also shocking that an adult would choose to tackle a kid. This is why one person wrote in disbelief, “did he really tackle a child?” Another person said that this was an ego move on the guard’s part. “The tackle was so unnecessary they already had him. Ego move,” they wrote. Someone else shared the same opinion as they said, “That tackle was totally uncalled for and way too excessive for a child.” One Netizen found it weird that the guard treated the kid like he was dangerous. “Tackling a kid? They’re acting like he’s some kind of terrorist,” they added. There was also one person who tried to defend the security guard as they wrote, “They are doing their jobs.” The kid wasn’t a threat.
I didn’t expect that a lot of people would take the California security guard’s side, but they actually did. “It’s a part of their job, play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Nope he needed to learn the lesson of FAFO. Children are not special.” A third person then joked and said, “tacklet the parents next for bad parenting.” I’m honestly not sure if this was just joking or if they were being serious. What was a joke, though, was someone saying, “CPS is like where the mom and dad.” I’m just surprised that a lot of adults found it okay that a child gets slammed to the ground. If he was dangerous, then yeah, sure, let’s do this, but he clearly wasn’t. He was kind of stupid, though, because now he will probably get banned. That’s worse than the tackle.
