Racial slurs are nothing new, but it definitely feels like people have been becoming more comfortable with using them in public as of late, no small thanks to our country’s current leadership. With racism on the minds of so many people these days, why not slap it on our cars? Of course, that wouldn’t be right, but a vehicle owner in Missouri received quite the unexpected and rather inappropriate number for their new plates: the N-word.
Well, technically speaking, it’s not exactly the racial slur itself, but something that certainly looks like it, especially from a distance. The Missouri license plate had “NL6G6A” printed on it, and the person who was sent it claims they’ve “lost the license plate lottery.” Posting the photo of the plate to Reddit, they plan to maybe have it swapped out with something that would be hopefully less triggering. At least it goes to show they’re not looking to spread any possibly racist thoughts to other people on the road. But the rest of Reddit found the plate to be absolutely hilarious.
Reddit Found the Missouri Plate Funny, As Others Shared More Outrageous Numbers
“Is that the season pass?” laughed one user, referring to the online joke of people receiving the so-called “N-word pass.” Another commenter made up a funny scenario of someone reporting the plate to 911, but can’t say what the number is for understandable reasons. “No keep it, You will now remember the plate number,” another Redditor told OP. “With the 6G6 in the middle you may get people unable to correctly identify your car which depending on the circumstances could be advantageous,” an individual jokingly added.
Other Reddit users in the comment section also chimed in with their own stories of wacky and outrageous license plate numbers. One person claims the DMV gave their mom one that read “6AYS469.” “[She] had it for years before one of my friends pointed it out,” they fondly recalled. Another person showed a photo of yet another Missouri plate that read “BJ4COP,” quite scandalous, to say the least.
Racism is no laughing matter, especially in today’s political climate, with some awful people even getting money from saying the N-word. But at least this Redditor’s post gave many people a hearty, non-offensive chuckle, and hopefully, they get the license plate replaced.
