Back in 2016, Ubisoft announced that The Division would be adapted to the big screen with Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal set to star. Stephen Gaghan (writer for Syriana, Traffic) was also attached to direct the project. However, David Leitch, most notably known for his work on Atomic Blonde and the upcoming Deadpool 2, has been brought in to replace Gaghan as director. Gyllenhaal and Chastain are still on board to star as well.

Tom Clancy’s The Division takes place in the aftermath of a deadly virus attack on New York City. You play as an agent of The Division, an elite group of soldiers who have been embedded in society with the main objective of keeping the government going in case of a national tragedy. Your agent is tasked with investigating the origins of the virus and restoring control of Manhattan.

The Division

Having David Leitch, Jessica Chastain, and Jake Gyllenhaal attached to this project should give fans hope that The Division won’t be like other video game-movie adaptations that came before. The project isn’t expected to go into development until Leitch wraps up his work on the Fast and Furious spinoff film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham (which could be as early as late 2019).

Ubisoft has had a busy year so far regarding the third-person action RPG. Along with developments on the big screen, the company also recently announced The Division 2. Although the sequel doesn’t have a definite release date yet, more information will be shown at E3 2018. To see any more information on Ubisoft’s E3 conference click here.
