T-Mobile have been rivals with Sprint for a few years now, but on April 29, the two companies announced that T-Mobile will be purchasing Sprint.

John Legere, leader of T-Mobile US Inc. and Sprint Corp. leader, Marcelo Claure met on Tuesday to discuss the $26 billion deal to merge the companies together to make the third largest company in the mobile world. This deal will combine to serve 127 million customers and are thinking of employing more than 200,000 people to combat the expansion.

John Legere, president and chief executive of T-Mobile US, said:

“This combination will create a fierce competitor with the network scale to deliver more for consumers and businesses in the form of lower prices, more innovation, and a second-to-none network experience – and do it all so much faster than either company could on its own.”

Some customers are concerned about the merge as prices may go up with the lack of competition in the market. But T-Mobile are reassuring consumers that the merge is a good thing. They claim that better cell phone service will be one of the improvements that will come with the merge.

A key part of the merge is to create 5G networks. T-Mobile claims it could provide speeds up to 15 times faster on average by 2024 and customers will be seeing 5G networks a lot sooner because of this merge. They are planning toย utilize T-Mobileโ€™s low-band 600MHz and Sprintโ€™s 2.5GHz to create a high-capacity network in the U.S.

How long the merge may take is still unknown and only time will tell if this merge is successfully, as they have done similar deals in the past before which failed twice.
