The first open beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is in the books, and Treyarch gathered a lot of data on what worked and what didn’t by letting the community run around in the multiplayer mode for a few days. Over on Reddit, they released a bit of a recap of the main takeaways from the beta, and what changes people can look forward to when the next beta rolls out in September. Here are a few of the sticking points:

  • Fog of war and the minimap – Treyarch wants the fog of war system to help reward teams that communicate, and they system as it was implemented in the first beta is a bit overpowered. They will tone it down for the next beta, only revealing a “field of view” cone instead of a full circle. The full circle will now be a part of the “Team Link” perk, as it underperformed in the beta.
  • Tac-Deploy – This item allows your team to set up a custom spawn point, and it was a bit too powerful in the beta. They will tone down its power for the next beta, and make it more obvious when a teammate has set one down and you can use it.
  • Body armor – Apparently something lots of people complained about in the Black Ops 4 beta. A few details about body armor weren’t working correctly, and should be fixed for the next beta. However, Treyarch did not feel it was as overpowered as a vocal part of the community would have you believe.
  • Loadout information on kill cams – They weren’t able to get this in time for the first beta, but Treyarch wants you to know what killed you when you watch the kill cam.

Black Ops 4

There are a few other details they discuss, but those are the big ones.

The next Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta is coming in September, and will feature the anticipated battle royale mode “Blackout.” The full release for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled for October 12, 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
