This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information.

During an interview with Gameinformer, Black Ops 4 Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar revealed a ton of information on CoD’s newest battle royale mode, Blackout. You can see the interview down below:

For those of you who decided to skip that rapid-fire discussion for whatever reason, here are just some of the details you missed (courtesy of Gameinformer and Gamerant).

How Many Players?

Blackout

As of right now, the official count for Blackout is 80 total players. It is important to note that this number is just for the beta and it could increase or decrease at the game’s launch.

What Will the Blackout Map Look Like?

Blackout

Call of Duty has released the map for Blackout. This map is by far the largest in the franchise’s history and spans across many landmarks (some new and some old).

https://twitter.com/CallofDuty/status/1037379326847594496?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1037379326847594496&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fvariety.com%2F2018%2Fgaming%2Fnews%2Fcall-of-duty-black-ops-4-blackout-map-1202928502%2F

CoD fans will immediately recognize a few of these areas such as Nuketown Island, Firing Range, and Asylum (which looks to be a reimagining of the classic World at War zombie map, Verruckt).

Why is there a zombie map included in Blackout? Well, that is because there will be undead lurking in some parts of the Blackout map.

These zombies will spawn at specific areas and act as another obstacle you have to climb over to outlast your enemies. Treyarch has stated that AI-controlled enemies other than zombies could possibly be added post-launch.

Gameplay Details and Everything Else You Should Know

Blackout

In Blackout, players will strictly be in a first-person view and can carry up to two primary weapons at a time. There will also be melee weapons and armor scattered throughout the map for players to find.

The most interesting piece of info is that you can transport any loot you find in a cargo truck. This vehicle can hold up to 10-20 items at a time.

Along with the cargo truck, you can find ATVs, boats, and helicopters to explore the map for more loot and hunt down your fellow players.

There will be around 20-22 total characters to choose from during the private beta and at the game’s launch. Some of these characters are famous Black Ops heroes such as the Origins crew, Mason, and Woods. Treyarch plans to add many more playable characters after the game’s release.

Vonderhaar also revealed that Treyarch has been testing split-screen capability for Blackout and it looks like a real possibility for the mode in the future.

Finally, we received our first official trailer for Blackout. You can see the full trailer below:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release October 12th, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Blackout private beta exclusively starts for PlayStation gamers September 10th at 10 AM PT. Here are the official start and end beta dates for all of the platforms:

  • PS4 Exclusive: September 10th – September 14th
  • PS4 and Xbox One: September 14th – September 17th
  • PC Early Access: September 14
