After tackling animation, CD Projekt Red is ready to deliver its sci-fi world to a new realm. Today, the studio announced that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is in the works, although it is not said to be a movie or TV show. It will be developed by Anonymous Content, the studio behind True Detective, Mr. Robot, The Revenant, and Spotlight.

In a press release, the company is looking for a writer to tell this “brand-new story” set in its dystopian sci-fi world. It is perfect timing; this comes weeks after the WGA strike ended. While the SAG-AFTRA strike continues and negotiations progress, Anonymous Content’s producers can seek a writer with CD Projekt Red.

The live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project will be produced by Anonymous Content’s Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, Bard Dorros, and Charlie Scully.

CD Projekt Red has had plenty of experience expanding its games outside of the medium. The Witcher went on to have multiple projects at Netflix, including its popular mainline series with Henry Cavill as Geralt, who has since left and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. The world of Cyberpunk 2077 has a bridge to live-action after Edgerunners, the anime series also on Netflix. The studio also published the book Cyberpunk 2077: NO_COINCIDENCE by Rafal Kosik. CMON is currently developing a board game based on the revived sci-fi RPG called Gangs of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky launch in 2020. With its 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion, a spy thriller expansion starring Idris Elba, has seen a revival of the game. It has sold 25 million copies in that time since its original release. Phantom Liberty was released this year on September 26 and has already sold 3 million units.
