Roblox A Dusty Trip doesn’t exactly break down the mechanics of the game very well. How do you start a car or use your headlights? How does combat work? What is your objective? What better way to explain everything you need to know than with a beginner’s guide to A Dusty Trip? There is a long and dangerous road ahead of you, full of monsters and obstacles, but I believe you’ll reach the end!
[Updated February 27 – Added a section on maps, expanded on survival, and clarified car mechanics further.]
What Map Should You Play?

In A Dusty Trip, there are two maps: Desert and Plains. Both have their differences, which is mostly aesthetic, but the Plains map is easier by a wide margin. If you’re a new player, Plains should be your go-to.
Here’s why: the Desert map has a lot of inclines and numerous rocks alongside and on the road. It makes it very difficult to navigate and, more importantly, keep a fast, consistent speed. You’ll rarely come across rocks and the boundaries between the road and grass aren’t as hazardous, leading to fewer wrecks.
Building Your First Car in Roblox A Dusty Trip

You’ll get two choices: a van and a sedan. Out of the two, the van is the best vehicle in A Dusty Trip, even if you’re playing solo. With so much more storage, the van can become a mobile hoarder’s house. This is especially helpful for storing the numerous gas, water, and oil cans you’ll need. The van also has one extra seat than the sedan.
To assemble your car, you’ll need:
- Doors
- Wheels
- Radiator
- Engine
- Gas
- Headlights
You’ll find everything you need in the garages or the barns (if you’re playing on the Plains map). Pick them up, attach them to their correct spot, and you’re good to go. Keep in mind your radiator and engine will already have water and oil, respectively. When you’re on the road, both of those resources will drain so keep an eye out for both, in addition to gas!
Additionally, items can be attached to your vehicle, too, just you do with the car parts. Whenever you find food, weapons, or items, stick them to the inside of your vehicle so they don’t fly out when you’re driving.
How to Start Your Car
Just about everything you need in A Dusty Trip is manually done, from opening your door to starting the car. It’s a bit tedious, but once you get the hang of it, it’s like second nature.
First, check your gas tank for fuel by hovering over the gas cap along the side. Don’t have any? Fill it up! There’s a gas can in the starting area.
Hop into the front seat, release the handbrake in the middle console, and start the car! As long as you have gas, you’ll be off to the races. But also keep in mind if you run out of oil and water, your car can overheat and shut off.
How to Turn on Headlights in Roblox A Dusty Trip

If you decide to drive at night, which I don’t recommend, lights are obviously essential. To turn on lights in A Dusty Trip, you have to pick up the headlight, then left-click.
One thing to note: lights don’t use up any of your gas. If you so choose, you can attach a bunch of lights all over your car. Knock yourself out!
How to Survive in Roblox A Dusty Trip

In addition to looking after your oil, gas, and water levels of your car, hunger will be one of your top priorities. Your Hunger bar will gradually drain, even if you’re doing anything. Be on the lookout for food, but only eat what you need to, maybe when your Hunger bar is half way. Save the rest in your car.
You should also be checking abandoned buildings for weapons. Why? Well, because of the zombies. There are monsters out there, and they want to eat your face. They’re also relentless, chasing you down and threatening to end your road trip early. Keep your eyes peeled for axes, flyswatters, and guns!
A Tip On Combat
Combat is a little tricky in A Dusty Trip as it’s entirely based on your movements, even when you’re wielding a gun. What I mean by that is if, say, you have an axe or flyswatter, you have to swing your hand to deal damage. And for guns, your reticle doesn’t determine the bullet’s trajectory, the end of the gun does. If it’s pointing off-kilter, it’s going to fire off-kilter.
One way to make combat easier, if you don’t mind cheesing, is to use doors and objects to trap mutants. For example, you can slip through a door that isn’t completely opened, but mutants can’t. As long as there’s a gap, you can beat the mutants to death or fill them with bullets.
Keep It Steady; It’s Not a Race

While going the distance is the main goal of A Dusty Trip, there’s no need to speed through as fast as possible. In fact, that’s a surefire way of getting stranded for miles. A better approach is to take your time and don’t rush things.
For example, you can miss crucial rest stops if you drive during the night, even with your headlights on. It may make your journey longer, but hunkering down for the night so you can have better visibility during the day can mean the difference between life and death.
This also applies to weather, especially sandstorms. Don’t try to drive through them — just shut off your car and wait it out. You’ll just waste gas trying to push through.
Share the Glory and Team Up With Friends

Last but certainly not least, I cannot stress just how tough A Dusty Trip can be by yourself. Trying to pick up items while you’re being chased down by mutants is frustrating. As dumb as the mutants are, a single mutant can kill you in seconds if they get within reach.
This is why you should always bring at least one friend. It’s exponentially easier since you can divide up the work, like one person keeps the attention of the mutants on them while the other gathers supplies. You can bring nine other players along for the ride!
