Barcelona based developer Open House Games has released a new trailer for their upcoming atmospheric adventure game, A Tale Of Paper, which combines puzzle elements with platform games and a bit of walking simulation. The developers are promising a totally unique experience in the form of a completely text-free storyline, using visuals to tell the story rather than spoon-feeding the player information.

Rather than using power-ups, the player’s character (A cute paper guy named Line), will use origami to transform their body to whatever the situation and environment calls for, helping players solve puzzles along the way… All while avoiding evil Roombas, of course. Use caution with these abilities though! Each of them will allow Line to use just one thing For example, transforming into a frog will make Line able to jump much higher and further, but he won’t be able to walk or run.

At first glance you could be forgiven for assuming A Tale of Paper is just another Indie 2D platformer, and while the game does make heavy use of platformer game elements, it’s much more than that. Players are able to move in any direction in a 3D world, with the camera scrolling laterally. This means there will be multiple paths a player can take to complete a level or puzzle, as well as a degree of exploration. To progress through the game, the player will be helping Line make their way through a super-sized world on an adventure filled with loss and hope. Line is just a paper-made boy that magically came to life trying to make his creator’s dreams come true, all while evading strange enemies and a dangerous environment.

A Tale Of Paper will be releasing exclusively for Playstation 4 on October 21st for $14.99. It’s currently unclear whether or not we’ll be seeing this title on Playstation 5. Will you be helping our little origami friend along on his adventure?
