This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

For the King 2 brings the roguelite RPG mechanics we love and cranks them up. With a new threat to eliminate and a new tyrant to defeat, players will be spending a bit of time preparing their party before journeying into the lands of Fahrul. For that, picking the right starting classes in For the King 2 is essential. Since you only begin with five and can only assemble a group of four, forming a party might be challenging. Please don’t fret, though, because we will nudge you in the right direction.

The Best Starting Classes in For the King 2

For the King 2 lets you begin your adventure with five starting classes, of which you can take four in your party. While all of them are great and provide different useful things, some perform much better during the early turns of your campaign. Besides, given the difficulty of these games, picking a bad party composition can end your run early. So, let’s see which ones are the best and worst you can pick immediately.

5. Scholar

Despite the Scholar being the dedicated magical damage dealer, or at least the one you get first, it isn’t as great as one would think. Its skill, Refocus, isn’t too helpful and doesn’t proc as often as we’d like. When we played, we found out it never activated, leaving us with a focus-hungry class with no party-wide support skills. Yet, if you want a pure magic damage dealer, it isn’t bad to bring a Scholar. They pack a heck of a magic punch.

4. Stablehand

At first, the whole team was excited to try the Stablehand, given how it is one of the new classes in the game, but it felt short. Its passive skill, while on paper, sounds great, we didn’t see it perform as well as some of the other previous classes that made it to the sequel. Yes, it lets you get a bonus when using your final focus point, but that’s it. It’s very situational and not helpful at all in most of the fights.

3. Blacksmith

When we played the first game, the Blacksmith was our absolute favorite, at least talking about the base classes. It’s an immovable wall that also hits hard with melee weapons. While you can make it a DPS character, it’s better to equip your Blacksmith with a shield to trigger its passive, which has a chance to negate all damage. Besides, with the new grid-like combat system, you must send your Blacksmith to the front row to protect your ranged units.

2. Hunter

The good old Hunter never ceases to amaze us, and it’s, by far, one of the best starting classes in For the King 2. It has the highest speed, and it’s fantastic to explore the overworld and attack fast during combat. This game has many fun weapons that can take advantage of the Hunter’s stat. While squishy, you can make it a melee or ranged class and raze the battlefield in minutes.

1. Herbalist

We’re so happy to have the Herbalist as a default class in the sequel. In the first game, you had to unlock the class through the Lore Store; however, the sequel lets you start with a healer immediately. While you can mix and match the above classes, we recommend always bringing a Herbalist. They heal the whole party by using herbs in and out of combat, making it much easier and cheaper to top off everyone’s health.

Before we end this ranking, here’s the short version of the list if you want to go down to business and select the best ones:

  1. Herbalist
  2. Hunter
  3. Blacksmith
  4. Stablehand
  5. Scholar

Remember, all classes are great, but having a good party composition will make exploring much easier. Try to balance your group when playing solo or with friends, and you won’t have any difficulties when exploring Fahrul.
