BioWare has been pretty active when it comes to releasing footage of their newest game, Mass Effect: Andromeda. But instead of focusing on the popular single player campaign that people are used to seeing from a Mass Effect game, BioWare has released a video displaying a feature not usually seen in RPGs: multiplayer. But this isn’t the first time a Mass Effect game has had multiplayer. Mass Effect 3 had a multiplayer mode that looks similar to the one we see in the video above. Players will have to complete a variety of objectives while defeating waves of increasingly more difficult enemies with other teammates. This video shows that there’s more to Mass Effect: Andromeda’s multiplayer than its predecessors’.

The first addition to Andromeda’s multiplayer is customization. Players will be able to choose from 25 different characters at the game’s launch date, with more to most likely come later on. Another addition is the ability for players to choose any weapon they saw in the campaign mode and equip it to take down those hordes of alien scum. The weapons will be separated into three different categories, where they will do a certain amount of damage depending on the enemy you’re fighting. The best part: you can choose any weapon regardless of the class you select. There will even be a female Krogan to fight as!

Clearly not a Krogan, but still looks cool.

There will be five multiplayer maps available upon the game’s release on March 21 in North America and March 23 in Europe. The maps include Sandstorm, Magma, Derelict, Firebases Zero, and Icebreaker. Sandstorm is the map shown in the video above.

The Mass Effect franchise is dependent on their single player campaigns, as that’s where most players spend their time. I like the fact that BioWare continued to include the multiplayer mode in Andromeda, as it gives the game a more diverse feeling to it. The developers don’t want players to frustrate themselves with the campaign mode every time they play and that’s a good idea. If a player has troubles beating a part of the game, then they can keep playing in the multiplayer mode, instead. That is if they’ve had enough with single player and end up rage quitting. Multiplayer gives players options, and, in return, more ways to play the game. BioWare sure knows how to give their players more ways to blast away those extraterrestrial bad guys.
