An adult-animated Game of Thrones spinoff series is reportedly in development at HBO max.

Clearly, WarnerMedia isn’t settling with the success of just Game of Thrones. They want to squeeze as much story out of Westeros as possible. Game of Thrones ended with a divisive season 8, but there have since been many potential spinoff ideas discussed. However, the original spinoff, Blood Moon, didn’t make it past early development. Recently, there seems to have been a success with the development of House of the Dragon, which is now heading to the platform sometime in 2022. In fact, there are already some big names involved, including Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, and Emma D’Arcy.

In addition to House of the Dragon, last week, Variety reported another spinoff following The Tales of Dunk and Egg. Of course, this series is based on another yet-to-be-completed series by writer George RR Martin. Dunk and Egg chronicles the adventures and spoils of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon Targaryen as they travel Westeros.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, an animated series is in development at HBO Max. A series like this makes sense considering how the streaming service needs to cement itself as one of the world’s biggest. Netflix has tons of original shows. Disney Plus is ever-expanding with loads of Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows. Hopefully, many Westeros-based dramas can entice more subscribers to HBO Max. Moreover, a live-action Harry Potter series is reportedly in the works too!

Sources tell @THR that meetings with writers are underway for a potential series that would be part of the franchise's expansion at parent company WarnerMedia https://t.co/C7h1kG34QG

Per THR, a veteran agent commented on the news:

“In the face of massively expanding verticals, people have to make choices about what services they want based on what they can provide them. [HBO Max] is going to look in their library and they’re going to exploit everything they can.”

Sadly, plot details are kept under lock and key. Apparently, the series will carry a similar mature tone to Game of Thrones.
