Jon Stewart is making his return to television. Well, streaming that is, in a new show titled, The Problem with Jon Stewart, coming to Apple TV+. The series is a biweekly show that will address a single topic per episode, similar to John Oliverโs Last Week Tonight. This is the first new series hosted by Stewart since he left The Daily Show, now hosted by Trevor Noah, in 2015.
Stewart hosted The Daily Show for 16 years, garnering 22 Emmys and a prominent following throughout that time. The series also served as a launching platform for many other successful comedians who were correspondents on the show including Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Jessica Williams, Rob Riggle, Samantha Bee, and many others. However, unlike The Daily Show, this series will follow a single topic instead of covering the many political news stories of the day.
โI got burnt out on the pace of The Daily Show and also just my inability to evolve it to another satisfying place,โ Stewart said, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. โI knew that I could play out the string, but that didnโt feel particularly satisfying for me or for the audience, and wouldnโt it be nice to give people a chance to fall in love with the show again in a different way? And then of course get disappointed with it in a different way because thatโs the cycle.โ
The 30-second teaser released by Apple shows Stewart hosting the show in front of an audience in a much more casual outfit. The teaser shows hints at many of the interviews he has conducted including ones with Levar Burton, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough, and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen. Some of the topics he will be addressing include U.S. Military veterans and the economy. The Problem With Jon Stewart will premiere on Apple TV+ on Sept. 30. It will also be accompanied by a podcast premiering on the same date.ย
