The first official poster for the Michael Fassbender ledย Assassin’s Creed movie has been released by Ubisoft ahead of E3. Check out the full image below.
The poster doesn’t reveal any details about the film, which is understandable as filming isn’t expected to start until September. It does however prominently display an eagle; one of the key symbols of theย Assassin’s Creedย franchise. It also hintsย to the science fiction elements of the franchise with the animus styled effects at the top and bottom of the image.

The movie is being co-produced by New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures – a division of Ubisoft. Although their only previous production wasย Rabbids Invasion, Ubisoft Motion Pictures have plans to eventually bring out movies forย Far Cry,ย Splinter Cell, Watch Dogsย andย Ghost Recon.
Ubisoft is expected to have completeย control over the movie which some critics have called into question. Although Ubisoft knows the Assassin’s Creed franchise better than anyone else, they have never created a major motion picture. However, since the majority of movie adaptations of video games get critically panned, having the developer and publisher have creative control could prove beneficial.

Detailsย on the rest of the movie are still scarce. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are the only confirmed cast members. And it has been confirmed that Justin Kurzel will be directing. Interestingly, all three have already worked together on the upcoming film Macbeth. Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie have all been credited with writing the screenplay.
Assassin’s Creedย is one of Ubisoft’s most prominent franchises and it has already been transferred to otherย forms of media. Firstly there wasย Assassin’s Creed: Ascendance, an animated short film. And then there wasย Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, a live action mini-series released in three parts.
The movies stated release date isย December 12, 2016, so expect to see a lot more teasers and trailers over the next 18 months.
