While changing clothes, the last thing you want is an audience watching you. However, a woman in Atlanta, Georgia, might have had someone eyeing her while she was in a thrift store’s dressing room. As she tried on clothes and looked in the mirror, she was shocked to spot a security camera above her reflection. “I feel like this shouldn’t be here,” she thought to herself, and took a photo of the surveillance device before posting it to Reddit.

Only realized after I got dressed in this dressing room. I feel like this shouldn’t be here, it’s a thrift store in Midtown Atlanta

Likely much to her disappointment, most of the Redditors in her comment section seemed more dismissive of the camera’s placement than worried about her privacy concern. “Are you sure it’s pointed at the dressing room? Those are not 360 cameras,” supposed a commenter. Although a reply suggested that the device might still rotate 360 degrees. One person chimed in, claiming they believe most retailers wouldn’t invest in rotating cameras and even further questioned if the small black domes installed on the ceiling and walls even have anything in them.

Regardless of all the commenters’ baseless conjectures, the Georgian is still worried that her privacy was violated while changing her clothes. “I can’t see what direction it was pointed in,” she admitted. “[But] I just want to be certain it wasn’t pointed in the room, especially since I realized too late.” As one user put it, it’s almost impossible to be sure whether it was aimed directly at the dressing room, and if it was, if it could even see into the space itself. A self-proclaimed retail supervisor for JCP stated that there was no way a security camera would be pointed at a dressing room, so OP should have nothing to worry about.

“At the very least, it’s just a stupid camera placement that will make people uncomfortable,” remarked a commenter. The thrift store shopper tried to reassure herself in a reply: “And really, this just may be it…I’m hoping it is lol I was so uncomfortable.” Whatever the case, real or fake, aimed at the woman or elsewhere, the camera is definitely doing a good job of making people feel watched.
