The actual title of Avengers 4 has been in limbo for a while now. Ever since it changed from Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, speculation has run rampant, especially considering the actual title has been hidden for spoiler purposes (for Infinity War).

Earlier this week, the cinematographer for Avengers 4 listed the title of Avengers: End Game on his website.

While there have been plenty of different names thrown around (Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet, Avengers: Assemble, ect.) the front-running title for a while now has been Avengers: End Game.

Alongside it being a fitting title to end many of the runs for the Phase 1 heroes, it also works in correlation with the Russos wanting to withhold the name until after Avengers: Infinity War.

The only wrinkle in this theory is that the Joe Russo stated that the subtitle was never said aloud in Infinity War.

In Infinity War, Doctor Stephen Strange stated “We’re in the End Game, now,” right before giving up the time stone. This act contradicted his previous statement that he wouldn’t give up the stone to save Tony or Peter. Later on, he looks through millions of possibilities regarding how to beat Thanos, stating there was only one way. Many believe that his choice to give up the stone is in line with that one way, and is why him cryptically stating it is Endgame makes sense, as well as the title for the next film.

Avengers 4 is set for release on May 3, 2019.
