Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Slams Ubisoft after Prince of Persia Disband: ‘The Last Notable Game on their Platform was Far Cry 6’

Steam always rises in hot places

Apparently, it’s not just players who are vocally critical of Ubisoft. Some esteemed video game developers also have something to say about the troubled game studio’s plans and current state. And it’s not just any video game developer, but the Publishing Director for Baldur’s Gate 3, Michael Douse. Michael Douse took to X/Twitter to voice out his criticisms for Ubisoft amid the studio’s recent Prince of Persia dev disbandment.

Douse’s tweet was a post sharing PC Gamer’s article about Prince of Persia‘s cancellation and future.

The last notable game on their platform was arguably Far Cry 6 in 2021. The Crew, Mirage and Avatar came in 2023 and didn’t perform, so you can assume subscriptions were at a lull when PoP released by 2024. Which means people wouldn’t be launching their store all too much.

In it, Douse also stood by Steam as a platform that would’ve saved Prince of Persia. This is also something Ubisoft appears only to have started realizing recently after it struck a deal with Steam for future titles. Douse has also argued that hypothetically, there would have been a Prince of Persia sequel. The dev team wouldn’t have been disbanded if Ubisoft allowed a Steam release.

Apart from Ubisoft’s blunder with Prince of Persia, Douse also argued against subscription services, deeming them unwise. Although the Prince of Persia dev team put together a well-made game, the fault apparently lies with Ubisoft for failing to market and sell it. The studio initially refused to sell it outside its platform and subscription service.

Too Little Too Late for Prince of Persia

It’s worth noting that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was eventually released on Steam back in August 2024, but it was already too late at that point. The game had been out since January 18, 2024.

Shortly after Douse received the media spotlight for his tweet, he also jokingly stated that Ubisoft is also not allowed to get mad at him. That’s because Star Wars: Outlaws is his Game of the Year (GOTY) candidate.

Star Wars Outlaws is my GOTY so they’re not allowed to be mad at me.

He then followed that up with a correction two hours later. He’s starting to prefer Metaphor: ReFantazio as is GOTY instead of Star Wars: Outlaws.

Ok it might be Metaphor
