Baldur’s Gate 3 has finally received Patch 8, or the final patch, and it’s filled with free content and features that would put paid DLCs to shame. However, not all is festive in the Baldur’s Gate 3 community, because some players have apparently chosen to pester or even harass modders to update their mods so they can smoothly play Baldur’s Gate 3 once more.
Supposedly, the incident has become so widespread or common that there have been a couple of highly-updated posts about it on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit. Some posts complaining about mods in the game are also present in Steam discussions.
The Reddit posts, both reaching thousands of upvotes hours after they were posted, have pointed out that modders who work for free to bring gameplay-enhancing mods should not be threatened or harassed. Moreover, players who can’t wait until their favorite mods are updated should just make their own mods.
Another post pokes fun at the struggles of modders in the current state of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8. Because whenever a big update like this comes along, most of the mods will stop working or might even result in save-breaking glitches or bugs (until they’re updated, of course).
Hence, some players might be getting too antsy and are itching to get back to their Baldur’s Gate 3 playthroughs, especially with the new features and content added. It’s just that modding doesn’t exactly pay for modders, and they mostly do it out of their free time, passion, or necessity.
You Might Have to Play Vanilla for a While
Thankfully for modders, the majority of Baldur’s Gate 3 players appear to be sensible and don’t expect quick fixes to their mods. Rushing mod development is not exactly a good thing, as it can result in further bugs.
Sarcastic replies in the aforementioned Reddit thread were expected, but they do somehow help in reiterating just how much hard work modding is, as it’s basically charity work for video games:
“But have you updated your mod yet? What are you doing on reddit? Get back to work for free for us!!! Jk. Good luck out there. And thanks for the work,” jokes Redditor Objective_Resist_735
The thing about Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is that it’s huge. The final patch notably adds 12 new subclasses, or basically 12 new ways to play the game, and this will likely upset the balance of the game further. Hence, gameplay mods will likely take the longest to update, especially those that overhaul the combat.
Level editing has also been added to the modding toolkit, potentially allowing modders to create custom content. The new classes and added modding potential, along with many other features and fixes, have concluded the content roadmap for Baldur’s Gate 3.
