It’s that time again to reveal what games will be free (well, it is when you remove the cost of the subscription) for PlayStation fans with May 2021’s edition of the PlayStation Plus free games lineup. This month has the makings of a very decent one, as straight off the bat, we spot two heavy-hitters in the lineup in the form of Battlefield V and Wreckfest, with Stranded Deep completing that lineup. It’s a different list to what we rumored earlier in the month, with Disco Elysium and Godfall being some of the names mentioned, but personally, I don’t think this month is a disappointment by any means.

Battlefield V, PS Plus May

We don’t need to detail Battlefield V too much – you’ve probably heard of it. Returning to the World War II setting after a few games, it took that signature Battlefield formula and carried it to the endzone, feeling more like a refinement than a revolution. That certainly came with the controversial Firestorm mode, as it marked the first time that Battlefield had dipped its toes into the battle royale waters. As previous entries in the series had done before it, it continued to push graphical boundaries, being one of the first games to showcase ray-tracing in all its glory on the new NVIDIA cards.

Wreckfest is beautiful in a very different way. See, a lot of racing games want to showcase different cars at their most pristine. Wreckfest sticks its middle finger up at that and says “just smash everything up.” In that respect, with all of the glorious destruction physics on display, it does that wonderfully well and makes for a smashingly good time (sorry, I had to).

Completing May’s PS Plus lineup is Stranded Deep. A small favorite of content creators and streamers, it takes the idea of what it would be like to be stranded on a desert island and puts that into practice. You’ll have to deal with sharks and your dwindling health stats (hunger, hydration, and the like) following a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean.

You still have time to download April’s PlayStation Plus games, as May’s PS Plus lineup will become available on May 4. I’ve just realized that that’s a missed opportunity to throw in a Star Wars game. Oh well.

Anyway, what do you think of these games? Will you give them a download? Leave us a comment.
