Bayonetta Director Leaves Dev Studio as It Prepares for Bayonetta’s 15th Year, Joins Housemarque Instead

Platinum Games recently announced that they have something in store for Bayonetta fans for the franchise’s 15th Anniversary. However, it appears that more of Bayonetta‘s creative heads are not staying for the festivities because Bayonetta Origins’ director has quit the studio and left Platinum Games for another developer studio.

The director in question is none other than Abebe Tinari who was in charge of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, which was released back in 2023. Tinari will sadly not be around for more Bayonetta games in the future.

The news came from some ResetEra forum users who noticed that Abebe Tinari changed his work info on LinkedIn. Instead of Platinum Games, Tinari is now working as a Lead Game Designer at Housemarque, which is a Finnish game dev studio.

Tinari actually left Platinum Games back in November 2024 as part of the reported creative exodus involving several game leads and directors. Some forum users have even guessed that Tinari was headed for Housemarque before the year ended and they were right.

Tinari’s departure from Platinum Games was quite a blow to Platinum Games since he has worked with the studio for 11 years. Bayonetta Origins was also well-received, even though it had a limited Nintendo Switch exclusivity.

Meanwhile, Housemarque Games is well-known for Returnal— a third-person roguelike action game that made waves back in 2021. Some Bayonetta fans are now expecting a Bayonetta-esque game from Housemarque, possibly in the next few years though nothing is confirmed right now.

The show goes on for Platinum Games, however, despite the gaming community’s worries about the creative exodus and developer layoff. It’s not just Bayonetta that’s affected, but also some of the Nier games, most notably Takahisa Taura who was responsible for NieR: Automata‘s gameplay and combat.
