Like many other turn-based RPGs, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a theorycrafter and min-maxer’s paradise. At first glance, the Attributes in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 seem basic (or even lacking), but you don’t get frequent opportunities to pump up those stats. Hence, we have some recommendations on how to plan out your Expedition’s growth through Attribute priorities.

We’re going to need to divide these recommendations per character, as not all characters have the same role. In other words, it’s not a one-size-fits-all affair. You’ll have to get a feel for each character to see how they benefit from each Attribute. Try these out:

CharacterPriority
GustaveLuck/Might
LuneVitality
MaelleAgility
ScielMight
VersoAgility/Vitality
MonocoAgility/Luck

Gustave attacks a lot and attacks in multiple swings sometimes, so having high Luck lets you maximize the number of his attacks with crits, especially in his skills. Might also works well, seeing as he’s a traditional damage dealer.

Lune might appear to be your typical DPS mage class, but she’s better suited as a healer, so you want to keep her alive. Defense is a bit of a waste, in my opinion, once you can master dodging and parrying, so Vitality might be a better investment.

Maelle applies plenty of elemental debuffs to enemies, so attacking enemies with elements before she can pop off her debuffs results in lower damage. So Agility ensures Maelle goes first and applies as many debuffs as she can.

Sciel is similar to Gustave, so Might would be a good fit for him. Depending on what skills you use, you can also pump up Luck for Sciel.

Verso can also be a support class, so going first or even after Maelle is a good strategy for him, so he can apply buffs to your damage dealers. When not playing support, Verso can soak up damage and hits.

Monoco is honestly hard to gauge, but you can never go wrong with Agility and Luck as those scale well into late-game areas.

It’s also worth noting that weapons scaling plays a big part in how you might want to spend those Attribute points. So if you find a weapon you like, make sure to take note of its scaling as some scale with Luck while others scale with Vitality or other Attributes.

You gain attribute points by leveling up your characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, simple as that. Each level-up gives three attribute points, so you can choose to spread them out in case you want to experiment.

Speaking of experimenting, the game thankfully allows you to respec in case you regret your choices or want to try out other setups, especially with Monoco. You can respec in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 using the Recoat Option in the character Attribute UI.

Bear in mind that Recoat is not an infinite-use item, and each respec requires one Recoat. You can only find Recoat in specific places in the game, so you might not want to be trigger-happy with Recoating or resetting Attributes. These are methods to obtain Recoat:

  • Petank enemies
  • Bosses
  • Exploration
  • Merchants (usually for around 10,000 Chroma each)

If you’re going to use Recoat, you’ll want to prioritize one main DPS and Lune (as she’s the healer).
