Your horoscope matters in Oblivion Remastered, so don’t be surprised if a nosy old man starts asking you when you were born. It’s not a rizz attempt from Emperor Uriel Septim; he just genuinely wants to know for plot reasons. Picking randomly, however, is not a good idea since birthsigns are permanent, and some have more far-reaching gameplay effects in Oblivion Remastered. We’re here to hold your hand in picking a birthsign.
As you might have noticed, each birthsign in Oblivion Remastered gives perks depending on a playstyle or archetype. So we’re going to be picking them based on what you want your build to be.
Best Melee/Tank Birthsigns
The Warrior
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Fortify Endurance | Increases Endurance by 10 points |
Fortify Strength | Increases Strength by 10 points |
The name says it all for The Warrior, this Oblivion Birthsign is the best for melee playstyles and those that prefer to be up close and personal in combat. It’s not limited to physical damage builds, as Spellswords or mage/fighter hybrids can also benefit from this (though not so much compared to other, more magic-focused birthsigns).
The Lord
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Shield | Increases Armor Rating by 15 |
Resist Magic | Increases magic resistance by 15% |
The Lord is not necessarily just for melee fighters or those who wear physical armor. It’s ideal for players who want to be beefy right out of the tutorial. Magic resistance is quite precious in Oblivion Remastered since higher-level enemies tend to spam magic quite a lot. Also, additional armor rating wouldn’t hurt, and even light-armored builds can benefit from it.
Best Magic/Hybrid Birthsigns
The Atronach
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Fortify Magicka | Increases Magicka by 150 points |
Spell Absorption | 50% chance of absorbing incoming spells |
Stunted Magicka | Magicka regeneration is halted |
The Atronach is quite possibly the best mage birthsign you can pick. When paired with the High Elf/Altmer, you can achieve the highest Magicka in-game, which means a lot for spamming spells.
The downside, zero Magicka regeneration, is easily remedied by Spell/Magicka Absorption spells or even simple spell potions. If all else fails, consider going the hybrid route for a backup, though you will want a weapon that absorbs Magicka as well.
The Apprentice
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Fortify Magicka | Increases Magicka by 100 points |
Weakness to Magic | Increases susceptibility to magic by 100% |
It’s not as potent as The Atronach, and the drawback is scary. However, Bretons have increased Magic Resistance, effectively letting them negate most of the Weakness to Magic drawback of this birthsign. That’s how you circumvent it.
Best Stealth/Archery Birthsigns
The Shadow
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Moonshadow | Greater Power: Invisibility for 60 seconds (once/day) |
Invisibility right from the start can be a powerful tool, especially when abused. You can even get rich right away. And for ranged or stealth builds, Moonshadow can easily function as a panic button.
Best Birthsigns for Utility in Oblivion
The Steed
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Fortify Speed | Increases Speed by 20 points |
Speed is always a good stat in Oblivion, especially during dungeon or cave explorations. Hence, The Steed is a great investment and scales well into higher levels. Speed can also affect the distance of your jumps, so overall, a great stat.
The Thief
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Fortify Agility | Increases Agility by 10 points |
Fortify Luck | Increases Luck by 10 points |
Fortify Speed | Increases Speed by 10 points |
The Thief might sound like it’s intended for a stealth playstyle, but really, those benefits are all-encompassing. Speed determines how quickly you close distances, Agility increases Stamina, and lowers the chances of getting staggered. Meanwhile, Luck is a chaotic benefit but is still a welcome bonus. In general, it’s a good all-rounder birthsign and provides a lot of points.
The Lady
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Fortify Willpower | Increases Willpower by 10 points |
Fortify Endurance | Increases Endurance by 10 points |
The Lady is ideal for races with low Endurance and Willpower, such as Argonians, Bosmer, and Dunmer. This Birthsign practically covers the weakness of certain races, so consider it depending on which race you pick.
