Fans of singers Beyonce and Erykah Badu are currently embroiled in a serious debate online. The controversy began after Badu happened upon Beyonce’s upcoming album’s cover art for Renaissance Act II: Cowboy Carter. Taking to social media, the 53-year-old threw subtle shade at the cover art, seemingly insinuating that Beyonce copied her style. However, in no time, the Drunk In Love singer had many people running to her defense, and Beyonce’s publicist, Yvette Schure, was no exception.

Inside the Erykah Badu and Beyonce Drama

Beyonce’s much-anticipated album, Renaissance Act II: Cowboy Carter, is scheduled to be released in a few days. Beyonce unveiled the cover art for the upcoming record on Wednesday ahead of the album release. However, the image left Erykah Badu all fired up. The Next Lifetime singer took to her Instagram Story to question the art. She shared the image, which showed Beyonce naked with a red, white, and blue sash hanging across her chest and hips. It read, “Act II Beyince.” However, what seemed to bother Badu was Beyonce’s hairstyle — Long braids with braided bangs styled with red and white beads at its ends, which seemed a bit too similar to the one Badu frequently rocked. “Hmmm,” she mockingly captioned the post.

Beyonce fans came to the Grammy Award winner’s defense after the subtle shade. Schure even shared an Instagram reel featuring a montage of Beyonce rocking different braided hairstyles.

“She slays. She slays. Now. Then. Always #criticswithoutcredentials,” Schure captioned the post.

Given the numerous backlash she received, Badu rushed to call on Beyonce’s husband, Jay Z, for help.

“Why do women always think other women are copying them?” one fan asked.

Another fan shared:

“First of all that is an African cultural hairstyle does not belong to Erica.”

A third fan wrote:

“Hairstyles from Africa stop claiming it as yours.”

On the other hand, some fans took Badu’s side. They slammed Schure for saying the singer had no credentials.

“Erykah HAS credentials let’s be fr lol. And you are who ma’am?” one fan shared.

Another fan commented:

“Critics without credentials? You can’t be serious.”

A third fan opined:

“Ok but who don’t have credentials??? Let’s not get crazy!”

Others noted that Badu was playing and having fun, adding that anyone who took her post seriously was the problem. Meanwhile, most fans would want to overlook the drama of Beyonce’s Renaissance: Act II cover art and focus on her upcoming album.
