Black Mesa, the fan-made remake of the original Half-Life, may be fully completed this week. This morning, the developers responded to a fan asking about rumors of the game being finished saying, “We’ve boosted the anti-mass spectrometer to 125%”.ย That percentage can be interpreted as 12/5, or the Thursday of this week. It would also make sense, given that we haven’t received an update to the game for a little while now.

This would be massive news for Black Mesa, as the game hasn’t received the entire area of Xen yet. Fans have been patiently waiting since September of 2012, with more delays than anyone can count at this point. Only in the past few months has the game received bits and pieces of Xen, with some of the final levels and the final boss still missing from the game. This long wait will be worth it, though, as the developers have promised great improvements upon Half-Life 1‘s Xen. As quoted by the developers themselves, “We want our version of Xen to feel like it really belongs with the rest of the game in terms of mechanics, cohesion, and progression.” Given what we’ve gotten of Xen so far, many are confident that the finale will live up to the fan’s expectations.

Time will still tell whether the expansion is as good as was promised. Haven’t heard of Black Mesa before? It’s a full remake of the original Half-Life, including the same plot and levels. What’s changed, though, is the design of the levels and graphical quality to be at modern-day standards. If you’re interested in the game, you can purchase it on Steam.

This isn’t the only Half-Life news that’s been announced recently. Valve just announced that Half-Life is getting a VR release titled Half-Life Alyx. The title will be a prequel to Half-Life 2. Much to be excited for if you’re a fan of Half-Life. Are you excited to play through the end of Black Mesa? Have you been tracking the development of the game all this time?
