Black Ops 7 Needs to Put an End to CoD’s Streak of Boring Main Menu Themes

“The numbers Mason, what do they mean?”

When Call of Duty games used to have images and buttons as the main menu, Treyarch leveled up the design by bringing the protagonist to the interrogation chair and choosing the options for us. And who says they can’t do that again? Call of Duty‘s main menus have become so simplistic and stale in the past couple of years, and Black Ops 7 has the chance to make an impact in 2025.

It’s fair to say that Call of Duty in general has not always had the fanciest main menu designs, but among all the titles, Black Ops 1 and 2 are the best in my opinion. BO1 features Alex Mason sitting on a chair in the interrogation room and we choose the options from the TV that’s right in front of him. The sound and shift of the mood when we switched to Zombies was epic!

The same goes for Black Ops 2. This time, David Mason is the man choosing the menu options. The design for that game’s Multiplayer and Zombies modes was great as well, as we flipped the globe to choose different maps. Now, Black Ops 7 is a direct sequel to that game, and Treyarch can take this opportunity to sprinkle some creativity into its main menu of choice.

Conceptually, it could potentially be similar to the OG Black Ops, but center on David Mason instead. Perhaps he could be seen with the same pose he has in the teaser trailer, and when players choose each option on the menu, it could flip the scene with glasses and blur effects. There are a ton of ways to make things look more alive than simple buttons, and whatever that is, I hope it’s not like this:

This is a fan-made concept for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 main menu, and it’s just like BO6, but vertical. The transition between the Hulu-style of MWII and MWIII to what we have in BO6 right now is pretty good, but it’s miles away from the level of BO1 and BO2.

Amir is an absolute Call of Duty nerd, preferring shooter games more than everything. However, he does like to do uppercuts in Mortal Kombat and feel the NOS going through the engines in Need For Speed games.
