Blizzard is Giving Diablo 4 Expansion a Free Trial, but People ‘Would Rather Pay to Play Path of Exile 2’

Why can’t we be friends? Why can’t we be friends?

At the start of Diablo 4‘s new Season 7, Blizzard Entertainment has chosen to give a bit of a bonus in the form of a free trial for the Vessel of Hatred expansion. This free trial will last until January 28 for anyone who already owns the Diablo 4 base game. This way, players can try out the new Spiritborn class, among other new exclusive features. However, some players chose to be rather combative and even promoted Path of Exile 2 on Diablo‘s page.

The situation took place in Diablo‘s official X/Twitter account. As usual, the page announced the free trial for Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred and its deadline, along with Season 7. The free trial lasts until January 28 at 10 AM Pacific time. Unfortunately for Blizzard, most of the comments consisted of criticisms and even general sentiments that Path of Exile 2 is “better”.

One user even replied on the post that they “would rather pay to play PoE2” or Path of Exile 2. Most of the replies are also somewhat scathing, with comments urging Blizzard to “fix” Diablo 4 even though the Vessel of Hatred expansion appears to have been well-received back in 2024.

It also appears there are quite a few Diablo 2: Resurrected players who are voicing out their anger about the state of the game on a Diablo 4 post.

Still, there were some valid complaints about the free trial’s crippling limitation. One caveat about the Vessel of Hatred free trial also appears to be that players can’t play characters above level 25 since it’s a free trial. This doesn’t seem to be a problem with Game Pass versions of Diablo 4. Regardless, the general reaction seems mostly negative despite the free trial for Vessel of Hatred.
