People really need to start being more careful when dealing with ICE, Border Patrol, and the police. It’s becoming clearer than ever that there are plenty of officers who seem more than willing to treat ordinary civilians like criminals. In one recent incident in San Diego, California, a community activist decided to confront Border Patrol agents during an ICE raid. She asked what they were doing and explained that she was there to protect her neighborhood. Instead of answering, one Border Patrol agent told her to lock her doors because “they were coming for her.”
The activist, a San Diego resident, did not back down. She responded that she was a U.S. citizen and that they had no jurisdiction over her. The agent, unfazed, simply repeated his warning to lock her doors before stepping back into his vehicle. Another woman who was nearby began shouting at the agents, telling them to leave and hurling insults and curse words in their direction. Fortunately, the agents did not escalate the situation further by stepping out of their cars.
The San Diego woman later told onlookers that the raid had failed to capture anyone, which she considered a small victory. Still, the fact remained that she had been threatened by a federal agent simply for questioning their actions. The idea that an officer of the law would say such a thing to an American citizen was, for many, deeply alarming.
Online, reactions came quickly. “The good ole boys out harassing minorities again,” one commenter wrote. Others criticized Border Patrol as an institution, questioning how someone with that kind of temperament could even be hired. Some went further, calling the agents Nazis and worse. “The party that warned against big government is gleefully embracing government overreach and fascism,” another user commented. At the same time, many praised the two San Diego women for standing their ground and defending their community without fear.
Not all the responses were serious. One commenter focused on the insult the activist had thrown at the agent, laughing at how accurate it seemed. “F*** these guys. Sold their f***ing humanity for a quick paycheck. The reckoning will come!” one user wrote.
Others, however, expressed genuine concern about the direction the country is headed, worrying about how it had come to the point where Border Patrol agents were openly threatening regular citizens. “That guy needs to face charges immediately. No legitimate law enforcement agency should employ someone who threatens and menaces the public like this,” another user insisted.
