The indie PC fighter, Brawlhalla, is getting its own beta for the PS4 in May. If all goes according to plan during the beta, Brawlhalla may just get a full release on PS4. And, hopefully, it won’t stop there, as it could potentially be released on the Xbox One as well.

The developer, Blue Mammoth Games, has announced that the beta will be a closed one. Players will have the opportunity to sign up for the beta on a separate website. Here you’ll have to enter your email and wait to see if they select you for a spot in the beta. That’s a crappy part about closed betas: there isn’t a guarantee that players will gain entry. But, considering that Brawlhalla is a small game with a growing fanbase (over 5 million players in its Early Access phase on Steam), it makes sense that Blue Mammoth Games wants to keep the beta at a low. This strategy will give them an idea of how many people actually want this concept to happen, without having to give every one of them a spot. In turn, that’ll ensure players get the game if it’s released on the Ps4 (we all want what we can’t have).

The beta itself will include a new map, Colosseum, and an additional update to the game’s Brawlball mode. Both of these will also come to the PC at the same time as the beta. With these developments, as well as the shift to console play, Brawlhalla is making strides to be comparable to Super Smash Brothers: Melee within the eSports community. Considering the game is developed by a small company, and not a company like Nintendo, who has always been keen on keeping Super Smash Bros. out of the eSports community, there’s a good chance that it will keep growing. Brawlhalla has an eSports system that’s comparable to how League of Legends looked in its early days.
