Even though Karens can come in all shapes and sizes, there’s one prevailing truth that tends to ring true: they’re usually pretty miserable, with very little empathy or community spirit. While we’ve been treated to some real humdingers recently, from racists to feisty screechers to even a CEO, one that has the internet riled up right now is a boomer male Karen from California who seemingly takes pleasure in destroying people’s memorabilia.
In a snippet of footage recorded by a witness, the male Karen in question can be seen sporting a black t-shirt, black bomber jacket, and blue jeans. The incident takes place outside of the Beachfronter apartment complex in Ventura where they have a Kindness Rocks Project set up. Here, visitors can exercise their right to decorate rocks they’ve found on the beach with paint, inspirational messages, or cool designs.
For some reason, however, the male Karen is not best pleased by all these fancy Kindness Rocks, even though they don’t affect him in any shape or form. As a result, he can be seen taking other people’s painted memories, and angrily lobbing them into the ocean. While the buildup before the clip is unclear, the video starts off with the witness angrily calling the male Karen a “f*cking b*tch.” To this angry statement, the male boomer Karen simply says, “Thank you” in an ironic tone, as he proceeds to throw the Kindness Rock into the sea, before going back to pick up another.
“You think you’re really cool, huh? Destroying people’s memories.” says one of the passersby. In response, the Karen simply gives them a smug grin and the thumbs up. After some back and forth, the Karen declares, “This is not a graveyard for people. I come to enjoy the ocean.” One of the witness’s quickly interjects, stating, “Then enjoy it. Leave people’s memories alone.”
“It’s all just trash.” exclaims the Karen. “Makes it even worse, you know, you got pieces of broken cars in here. All kinds of bullish*t. It’s trash.” From the footage, though, there doesn’t appear to be any broken car parts in the Kindness Rock collection. At the end of the clip, the Karen fires, “Every time I pass by,” and re-enacts the motion of throwing something into the sea.
As the video continues to gain attention on social media, one Redditor opined how grumpy the Karen is, writing, “Hes the kind of guy who washes kids chalk off the sidewalk with a hose. [sic]” with another adding, “When I was a kid one of my neighbours made me and my friend from across the street scrub our chalk drawings away with a bowl of soapy water and a scrubbing brush. Some people are just miserable b*stards.” A third commenter pretty much summed up my thoughts on the matter and chimed in with, “Your standard miserable f*ck that must destroy all signs that joy still exists because they remind him he has none.”
