We see white privilege every day of our lives in America. If you were ever pulled over by a police officer as a white person and didn’t have to worry about the interaction that ensued, there’s privilege. If you never had to worry about not being hired at a job you really wanted based on the color of your skin, there’s privilege. A white Karen recently posted for the world to see that she doesn’t understand white privilege in the least. Now, she’s being called out for it by a California podcaster.
TikToker @paulforequality shared a comment from a separate video posted by a white Karen herself. The comment reads on screen, “My white privilege card has given me NOTHING. I work for what I have. It’s not about color!” Paul had a little something to say about that, knowing that this claim is ridiculous.
Paul fought back with some great points: “Have you ever been pulled over for being white?” “Have you ever had to have the talk with your children when they go to school?” “Were your grandparents on a will as property to be handed over to a white man?” The former republican tells this Karen, “You are literally the definition of white privilege by saying that.” He also boldly states, “People like you are why we have a white supremacist in the White House.”
Paul also points out that a lot of white people have an issue with immigrants being in the country without doing so ‘the legal way.’ He said that, if people truly cared about that, then why did they vote for a literal convicted felon? He describes Trump as “a guy who literally has dinner with white supremacists, like Nick Fuentes, in his house.” His claim is that “people like you need to be the white victim.” Because even if she is poor, that doesn’t automatically mean she doesn’t have white privilege. Still, somebody like her will always keep voting for the person who keeps her poor.
Commenters agreed that this Karen is completely out of touch with the reality black Americans face. One person stated in solidarity with Paul, “Part of the privilege is not knowing it exists. The problems that come without that privilege don’t even cross their minds, they almost can’t.” Another person shared a disheartening story that shined a light on white privilege in their own community. They said, “I have actually heard a sheriff say ‘I only hire blacks just so I don’t look racist.’”
When people like Paul speak out against racism and injustice, it makes a world of difference. Standing together and calling out privilege and injustices against people of color is the best way to unite against outright racist attitudes, like what this Karen displayed.
