The ways thieves operate seem to be getting cleverer as time goes on. They manage to come up with new methods to carry out their theft operations without being caught. The latest method to happen was done by a California thief who used a tow truck to steal the car of a woman who wasn’t in the car at that time. A Ring camera caught the California thief as he took the car away with no interference from anyone. Now, people are warning each other about these new ways that thieves seem to be depending on.
In a video posted by KTLA 5, you can see the California thief caught on camera as he tows the car left on the street. No one asked him anything because he looked legit. The owner of the car was left frustrated by the entire ordeal. She spoke with a KTLA 5 reporter and shared how she was informed that her car was found blocks away. The California thief took several items from the car, including the battery and the catalytic converter, plus the fact that they trashed the car as well. Not to mention that she had to pay $400 in impound fees. The whole thing is unfortunate.
People Reacting to the California Thief’s Actions
Many were upset by what the California thief did and the fact that the car owner also had to pay impound fees. “People shouldn’t have to pay to get their cars out of impound if they are victims of a crime. What BS! Way to go LA…city in decline.” Another person shared how this method isn’t as new as some thought. “Yeah. My dad got his work truck boosted a decade ago. Van was a total loss, but all of his tools were sold to some pawnshop and detectives eventually caught the a**hole. 3rd strike, dude is serving life,” they wrote. Another agreed as they said, “This has been happening since tow trucks were invented. Be safe out there, kids.”
Some found a funny side to the situation. One person asked, “how? How can one be safe from this besides taking their wheels off when they’re parked?” To which another replied by saying, “Use a tow truck to tow your car around and then they can’t tow it! Gotta stay a step ahead!”. Another wrote, “We need bigger tow trucks to steal their trucks.” One Redditor believed that this wouldn’t work. “Then they’ll get a bigger tow truck to steal yours. Tow-truception, I like it,” they said. I really hope the police manage to catch the California thief. On the other hand, I don’t think the car owner will be able to see any funny side to this.
