Actress Cameron Diaz hasn’t been in a film in a decade. Her most recent film is 2014’s Annie as Miss Hannigan, the alcoholic who runs the foster home where the titular character originally lives. Since then, she’s lived the quite life of being a wife to Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden and mother to shared daughter Raddix. Now, she’s returning to the big screen, all thanks to co-star Jamie Foxx. She has shared the screen with Foxx in the past, with the most recent having been Annie, where he played Mr. Will Stacks, a modification of Mr. Warbucks.

During an episode of The Graham Norton Show, the actress and her co-star talk about their film Back in Action. In the conversation, she shares how she only returned to acting after receiving the script from Foxx.

“I am back all thanks to Jamie. I had 10 years of not paying attention to anything; not accepting any advances, and then I got this script and thought that maybe it was time.”

She continues to convey her gratefulness to the Django star as well as share how lucky she feels to continue making films after not for so long. I’ll admit, I miss seeing Cameron Diaz on the big screen, but I also understand wanting to step away after such a long and successful career.

“I loved those 10 years for me and my family, but I thought, ‘If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it chance, I am a fool.’ ”

Both Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz attended the film’s premiere in Berlin, marking her first appearance at one in 11 years with Annie. Now, while Back in Action is her first project in a long time, that doesn’t mean her return to acting is permanent. She was working on several projects during her hiatus, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her return to any of them. These projects include Avaline, her wine company, and the birth of her children Cardinal, 11 months, and Raddix, 5, via surrogacy.

She made an interesting comment concerning whether this film means she’s officially come out of acting retirement. Personally, it felt a bit like a word salad and not much of an answer.

“I don’t know how I view it. It’s hard to say. If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to.”

Regardless of what happens, seeing Cameron Diaz on-screen in a modern movie will be exciting. Those interested can check out Back in Action on Netflix on January 17.
