Whether or Not You Can Be a Dragonborn in Baldur’s Gate 3
If your favorite D&D race to roleplay was a Dragonborn, then you are in luck, as they are available in Baldur’s Gate 3. They were unavailable in Early Access, but we can embrace this race and its varieties in the full release. The race has multiple subraces, each with specific traits that separate them. This availability lets you create your dream character to fit roleplaying aspects and your build when you find yourself in combat.
The main traits of a Dragonborn focus on Charisma (+1) and Strength (+2). The base race has a movement speed of 7.5 meters per turn. Depending on your subrace, that will determine your Breath Weapon type and the resistances you have. This ability sends out a path of death from your mouth, making every enemy in its way make a saving throw based on your Dragon Ancestry, constitution bonus, and proficiency bonus. A failed roll will land 2d6 damage, which increases to 3d6 at the 6th level, 4d6 at the 11th level, and 5d6 at the 16th levelโrolling half results in rounding up and taking that amount of damage. It takes a short or long rest to use it again.
If you want to play a Dragonborn in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will need to consider the subrace. Not only will this be for your roleplaying reasons, but it does change your damage type from the Breath Weapon. Here is a simple breakdown in terms of the Breath Weapon type based on the subrace:
- Black Dragonborn: Acid type, dexterity save, and 5×30-foot line.
- Blue Dragonborn: Lightning type, dexterity save, and 5×30-foot line.
- Brass Dragonborn: Fire type, dexterity save, and 5×30-foot line.
- Bronze Dragonborn: Lightning type, dexterity save, and 5×30-foot line.
- Copper Dragonborn: Acid type, dexterity save, and 5×30-foot line.
- Gold Dragonborn: Fire type, dexterity save, and 15-foot cone.
