This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Destiny 2 Season 22 players have stumbled upon a surprising addition, an all-black Phosphorescent Shader has mysteriously appeared in their Collections menu. Shaders themselves are consumables that are used to add distinct color palettes to your equipment. As Guardians have no means to manually pick their own colors, even a simple jet-black Shader is satisfying enough. Now with the item suddenly disappearing, is this elusive Phosphorescent Destiny 2 Shader actually obtainable?

Is It Possible To Get the Phosphorescent Shader in Destiny 2?

Unfortunately, you cannot obtain the Phosphorescent Shader as it was a glitch that was accidentally added to Destiny 2. Over on X (Twitter), Destiny 2‘s official help account, @BungieHelp, has clarified the issue. Although the in-game item description said that it is obtainable from Gambit matches and rank-up packages from the Drifter, it is bound to be removed.

“The Phosphorescent Shader currently visible in Collections is not an actual item, and instead was added to the game unintentionally. This will be removed in a future update.”

While disappointing, a number of eagle-eyed Guardians have noticed something peculiar about the Shader from the start. The all-black color scheme looks exactly like the armor’s “base color.” Oftentimes, if there is a predominantly black Shader, it will still be paired with other colors as highlights. For example, the Night Vision Shader has a glowing neon green addition. Jacarina Shader, too, is accompanied by white color and red orbs. Finally having the opportunity to paint a whole armor black made the playerbase extremely happy. Alas, it was not meant to be. Well, at least for the time being.

Despite the item being a bug, that does not mean Phosphorescent Shader will never be added to Destiny 2! It might be just a placeholder item for an event or expansion that was prematurely released into the game. Who knows, in future updates, Bungie might properly add Phosphorescent Shader one day. But if we take into account all other black color schemes though, I doubt it will be an all-black Shader.

That is everything you need to know about the Phosphorescent Shader in Destiny 2. We will update this article if Bungie does end up adding the Shader into the game in a patch, event, or expansion. Stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for more news, info, and guides on Destiny 2 and other MMO looter shooter titles.
