As you embark on your adventure across the post-apocalyptic wasteland of The Commonwealth, you’ll soon stumble upon Fusion Cores. These rare resources can be used to fuel Power Armor; the iconic protective exoskeletons featured prominently throughout the series. Not only does this distinct armor protect you from physical damage from the mutated monstrosities roaming Boston, but it also safeguards you against radiation and gives you super strength to boot. Thing is, do you have to recharge Fusion Cores in Fallout 4? Worry not as we’ll explain all below. Let’s go!

Is It Possible to Recharge Fusion Cores in Fallout 4?

We’ll cut right to the chase: Nope, it’s not possible to recharge Fusion Cores in Fallout 4. While you can recharge Fusion Cores in 2018’s Fallout 76, the mechanic has not been added into Fallout 4. Instead, Fusion Cores are finite energy sources that deplete over time. Once they have been used up and are empty, they are removed from the player’s inventory and are unable to be sold.

It’s important to note that there is, however, a way to recharge Fusion Cores by installing mods, but the vanilla version of the game does not feature any means to recharge them.

How to Obtain More Fusion Cores in Fallout 4

You can discover Fusion Cores while exploring the wasteland as they can occasionally show up as loot in containers, crates, and boxes. Granted, they are very rare, so if you’re looking for a more reliable, surefire method of obtaining them, then your best bet is to head to a trader who sells them.

Thankfully, there are plenty of traders in Fallout 4 who will sell you Fusion Cores, as long as you have the Bottle Caps, of course. Usually, Fusion Cores cost around 355 Bottle Caps a pop to purchase, though this can vary depending on your Charisma skill.

Here’s a rundown of traders who are known to sell Fusion Cores in Fallout 4. Do note, however, that the trade inventories of characters is slightly contingent on RNG (randomly generated), so there’s a possibility that you may have to visit more than one trader on this list:

  • Arturo Rodriguez – Diamond City
  • KLE-O – Goodneighbour
  • Tinker Tom – The Railroad HQ
  • Trashcan Carla – Sanctuary Hills

Lastly, another method of obtaining Fusion Cores is by defeating Sentry Bots as they sometimes drop them as loot.
