If you’re really hungry, it can be hard to think clearly, but when your deliveryman tells you he’s trapped in an elevator, asking him how long he’ll be is a bit wild. An unfortunate DoorDash driver delivering Chick-fil-A in downtown Chicago found himself in this exact situation with a particularly apathetic customer. After the elevator didn’t move for five minutes, the deliveryman finally decided to notify the recipient of his predicament.
“Customer got the nerve to say how much longer i want my food over the phone๐,” the DoorDash driver said, annoyed that anyone could be so thoughtless. “All this for 8 dollars…” he tells Reddit in his post. The 5-minute wait became 40 minutes, with little help from the apartment’s management. Finally, the driver had had enough and had to end up calling 911 to have the fire department come rescue him from the immobile elevator. “They came quicker than the management did and got me out in 5 mins๐คฆ๐ฟโโ๏ธ,” he explained.
As for the customer and the food, DoorDash cancelled the order but still gave him full payment for the delivery. He even got to eat the meal, albeit some of it was a little cold after the long holdup. “Fries tasted like donkey booty while cold. But the chicken was still warm and was good,” he happily told Reddit. Fortunately, the comment section kept him company and relieved his stress while he was trapped inside the elevator. While the story had a happy ending, many people still couldn’t believe that the customer was so unconcerned about the deliveryman.
“Tell the customer to meet you halfway๐๐ fafo and silly questions get silly answers like who would say that,” read the post’s top-upvoted comment. “lmao woulda just eaten it if they said that ๐คฃ,” laughed a reply. And ironically, he did end up eating the delivery. “I swear, the way some people’s brains work is absolutely baffling!” one commenter said in disbelief. “Tell the customer to come break you out if they want it so bad,” remarked another.
People can be so entitled these days, with many refusing to take just a few moments to think about what they’re saying. The Chicago customer probably just ordered again from DoorDash without another thought. Luckily, the comment section of the driver’s post shows that there are still many who are empathetic to a delivery worker’s predicaments.
