Chronos: Before the Ashes Souls-like Remnant
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

It goes without saying that Remnant: From the Ashes is one of the better souls-likes in a while. That is, at least from developers other than From Software themselves. Many seem to mess up the formula, resulting in mediocre or downright terrible souls-likes. Given Gunfire Games’ success with Remnant, the team is taking a stab at re-releasing one of their other souls-like games. Chronos: Before the Ashes, a previously VR exclusive title, is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia! You can check out the game’s fresh launch trailer below.

Chronos: Before the Ashes tells the story of a young adventurer, tasked with facing a labyrinth of hostile creatures. This is no small task, as such, you must use your arsenal and your wits about you to take on increasingly difficult challenges. There’s one catch though. As you die, which happens a lot in souls-likes, your character slowly ages. As they do so, they lose their ability to duel in close quarters but gain much higher wisdom as a result. As you progress through Chronos, you’ll have to choose weapons based on what your character can handle. If they’re younger, a sword and shield may prove most effective. If they’re older though, perhaps the wonders magic will work best. You’ll have to play through the game and make that decision yourself though.

Chronos: Before the Ashes represents something great for not only souls-like fans but Remnant fans as well. Chronos takes place before the events of Remnant: From the Ashes, featuring the titular labyrinth and all the sights you remember. It’s a genuinely great experience, one you won’t want to pass up. If you’d like more details on the game’s various systems, the team released an explanation video a week ago that’s worth checking out.

Will you be trying Chronos: Before the Ashes? If you played Remnant, what did you think of it? Let me know in the comments below.
