We have good news, and bad news.

Colossal Order has released a statement regarding the future of mods and performance for the upcoming Cities: Skylines 2 game. While we’d love to say all are good news, that isn’t the case. The developers have confirmed some fantastic things regarding modding. While it’ll be basic during the mod tools’ launch, they are planning things like cross-platform modding, meaning console players can enjoy custom content, too. However, regarding performance, things aren’t looking so bright, as it seems the game hasn’t met the standards or the benchmark the developers would’ve hoped to have by the game’s launch.

The best thing about the recent news is that console players can enjoy mods due to the addition of Paradox Mods. While the modding tools won’t come next week with the game’s launch, players can expect basic functions to let them use a few asset mods. The great thing, as the developers say, is that Paradox Mods is looking for inclusivity, which will be a way to make mods available on all platforms. We can’t stress how fantastic this is, as usually console players are left out of the modding world. Well, that won’t be the case. However, the performance part of Cities: Skylines 2 isn’t looking too great.

In the same announcements, the developers claim the game will make its launch date, but sadly, the team couldn’t achieve the benchmark regarding performance. They claim because this is a next-gen game, specs are always rising. This means many players might not experience the best performance, but the team is working hard to improve this aspect as months pass. Hopefully, the game will be playable and not like some of the other recent releases we’ve seen. While it might be bittersweet news, it’s nice to see the team is aiming to launch a good product and looking to improve it further. Now, all we can do is wait for the game’s imminent release and hope to build our city without any hitches.
