That is completely unacceptable

There is nothing more infuriating than blatant misuses of power. In today’s society, there is no shortage of overbearing authority figures who genuinely believe they can get away with anything because of the current presidential administration. One Connecticut YouTuber personally experienced just how corrupt police officers can be after he was spit on by Sergeant Bryan Fahey of the Groton Police Department. What’s even worse is that despite having been the one who was attacked, the YouTuber was arrested.

The above video depicts YouTuber Long Island Audit confronting Sergeant Fahey alongside his cameraman at what appears to be the officer’s home on July 12. After aggressive deliberations between the three, the officer ultimately decided to spit on Long Island Audit, resulting in both him and his cameraman being arrested. Commenters were shocked at what they were seeing, with one person commenting with, “Did we really just watch a video of someone getting spit on and not get arrested but the victim did. This is like a fever dream.”

According to a GoFundMe that was created after the fact, Fahey was not charged for his part in the assault, and the bonds for both Long Island Audut and his cameraman were set at a collective $125,000. Long Island Audit explains in the GoFundMe’s description that the charges are baseless and designed to intimidate journalists and activists who expose the misconduct of authority figures.

What’s even scarier about the entire situation is that the Sergeant felt it necessary to hold his weapon throughout most of the encounter. What would have happened if the firearm had gone off, injuring the YouTuber or his cameraman? The GoFundMe currently has $16,000 of the $28,000 goal raised, and has sparked a new social media hashtag: #FireFahey.

Once the two are released on bond, they intend to also use the donations from GoFundMe to fund equipment and documentation costs to further expose misconduct within the police force as well as educate the public. Currently, Long Island Audits has nearly 950,000 subscribers on YouTube, and the video is sitting at just over 300,000 views and growing. Hopefully, this will spark genuine change within the Groton community and Connecticut as a whole.
