Thanks to Netflix’s true crime documentary on The Menendez Brothers, law enforcers struggle to control curious fans. The show sparked renewed interest in Lyle and Erik Menendez, the infamous siblings convicted for killing their parents. The brutal crime occurred in the Beverly Hills home they lived in with José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez.

In 1989, the brothers shot their parents dead, but that has not stopped people from visiting the site. As seen in a TikTok post, cops recently responded to intruders at the property. The video captured cops searching the house with torches, with the caption explaining that a group had broken in. “We came to visit the Menendez house. And right when we came, apparently, 6 people broke in. And that’s why the police came,” the fan wrote.

“You can feel the bad vibes from the house, and I got goosebumps when we went to go visit,” the TikTok user added. This post was a part of the reasons cops feared the upcoming Halloween celebrations. The increased interest in the Menendez brothers has done more harm than good for Beverly Hills residents. According to law enforcement sources, they initially got calls from annoyed neighbors about the increased foot and car traffic.

However, those complaints have turned to trespassing reports as more thrill seekers visited the infamous Menendez home. The situation worsened with Hollywood tour buses adding the route to their stops. They reportedly dropped off groups of people interested in sight-seeing, creating an unfavorable environment for Beverly Hills residents. On that note, cops were taking extra measures for the traffic Halloween would generate.

TMZ noted that Menendez Brothers-inspired costumes had skyrocketed in sales, implying many might visit the siblings’ former home. So far, authorities have increased patrols in the area and recommended private security to property owners.

The attention generated from the Netflix show might be a nuisance for Beverly Hills residents but not the brothers. We reported that a petition was made on their behalf, seeking their release from prison after 35 years. The plea came from the extended members of the Menendez family, who claimed the brothers had acted in self-defense.

The family echoed similar sentiments to Lyle and Erik’s past statements about the alleged abuse they suffered at their father’s hands. “They are the victims. They would continue to be victimized, they would be called cold-blooded killers. Allow them the second chance they deserve. Let the 34-year-old nightmare end,” the Menendez family pleaded.

Will the Menendez brothers be set free? Only time will tell.
