Cyberpunk 2077’s Creative Director Sparks Fan Speculation with Enticing Tweet

Punk never dies

If you’re a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, you should care what Igor Sarzyński has to say. The creative director behind V’s story has been a guiding force throughout the game’s tumultuous history. A recent social media post from Sarzyński is now stirring fan speculation about what’s coming next for the dystopian sci-fi franchise. Sarzyński’s statement that “cyberpunk’s not dead” can be read in a few ways. All of them are interesting in light of the recent announcement from CD Projekt Red that (for the first time in a decade) no one’s working on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore.

The majority of CD Projekt Red’s development teams are reportedly now working on Polaris (the code name for the next Witcher game), and it seems likely that the remainder of the 2077 team has officially been reassigned to other projects. Among those projects is the codenamed Orion, Cyberpunk 2077‘s much-anticipated sequel. According to the development roadmap that Sarzyński shared on Twitter / X, however, Orion is still in the concept phase, so netrunners will have a while to wait before they can see Night City (or any other part of V’s world) again.

There’s no reason to suspect that Sarzyński’s post meant to tease some unannounced update for Cyberpunk 2077. The award-winning Phantom Liberty and game-changing 2.0 update have already reworked the original game beyond recognition. You no longer need the best mods just to make the game playable. By all appearances, CD Projekt Red is happy with the final state of the game. It’s now turning its full attention to other projects. Those projects just might take a while. Sarzyński and the rest of the team understand now more than ever that quality takes time. You don’t rush a Ripperdoc.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
