If you’re jumping into Dark and Darker, you should anticipate hardships in your future. They’re nonetheless thrilling and a delight to push through. If you want to invest more into the experience, however, then prepare to spend some money. Dark and Darker features real-life currency in the form of Redstone Shards. They’re not necessary to enjoy the otherwise free-to-play dungeon adventure, but the perks of owning some are undeniable.

Redstone Shards are the only source of real currency in Dark and Darker. You can buy them in-game via the Shop menu or head to the official website and visit the Shop from there. Players from around the world can invest, too, since you should see the currency based on your location. You can only purchase Redstone Shards in bundles. The prices listed below are based on the USD:

  • 1 Redstone Shard: $2.00
  • 2 Redstone Shards: $4.00
  • 5 Redstone Shards: $10.00
  • 10 Redstone Shards: $20.00
  • 15 Redstone Shards: $30.00

There’s typically no refund. The process isn’t one-click, so by the time you reach the end of the transaction, you should know with certainty that you want to spend money on Dark and Darker. Once purchased, the Shards will be added to your account so you can use them in-game. As of now, there’s no way to get Redstone Shards for free. If you see any website or people offering, take caution. You should only ever purchase them from the official website or in-game.

Using Redstone Shards in Dark and Darker can give you different perks and advantages. You can even use 15 to buy Legendary Status, granting you options to become a Trader, access more character slots, and reach the High-Roller dungeons.

You can also use Redstone Shards for cosmetics. Changing cosmetics isn’t just for appearance’s sake, however. Some offer a variety of buffs that can assist you in any match. This makes using real currency in Dark and Darker worth it. Of course, you don’t have to invest real money to play. A lot of the adventure is skill-based, and many get by without owning Redstone Shards. It’s all a matter of how deeply invested you want to get.

Dark and Darker is available on PC in early access.
